Steam Level 1
These are often Christian books, although not always. There is either no mention of lovemaking, or it’s referred to but no detail is given. A lot is left to your imagination. In other words, your grandmother could read a Steam Level 1 book and not even blush.
Steamy Romance
Steam Level 2
These books focus on emotional relationships and sensuality rather than lovemaking descriptions. Like Steamy Level 1, you’re left to use your imagination, except Steam Level 2 books turn up the heat just a bit and give you a greater sense of the romantic relationships between the characters.
Steam Level 3
These books will definitely make you reach for your fan. You’ll feel the heat, because they contain scenes with fairly explicit lovemaking, using graphic language and details to describe them.
Erotica
Steam Level 4
With these books, you no longer need to use your imagination. It’s pretty much all spelled out for you. There will be frequent lovemaking or even gratuitous sex that is described using graphic language. You will also sometimes find light BDSM elements in Steam Level 4 books.
Steam Level 5
These books contain no-holds-barred sex details. In some cases they’ll also contain stories involving BDSM, multiple partners, fetish behavior and other acts that some people might find objectionable. If you blush or are easily offended, stay away from Steam Level 5. If you like to walk on the wild side, though, you’ll enjoy these.
